An introduction from Patrick Gandy:

I met Monica and Dareen in Philadelphia, October 2004, during the United States Conference on AIDS. These women were gracious enough to share their stories with me. They were inspired by the song, “The Silence Is Broken,” which I penned to create awareness, to educate and to stress prevention in communities of color among the women there living with HIV and AIDS. Their stories are real and they are passionate. The very challenge that shook their lives is also the one that will save it and other women in rural parts of the United States of America. I will unfold them one by one.

If you have a story and want to tell it here, please email us your information and we will contact you.

I have teenage daughters who tell me that sex is not in their immediate future. They know that sex is something that they will save for their husbands but all parents should be warned and armed because the epidemic is real among heterosexuals and it is silent in communities of color. I do this for my children and for all those countless others who have nobody.

Documentary

I have been interviewing women of color who are living with HIV/AIDS for broadcast throughout the world.

These women are brave and intelligent. They are armed with information that will save us all as we struggle to help educate and provide services for those living with HIV/AIDS.

As with all things epidemic, this disease has transformed lives.

In their desire to live and take control of their lives after testing positive for HIV/AIDS, these women display an amazing zest for living and for discovering answers to living full and complete lives.

Even in the midst of chaos in the body, the chaos that is HIV/AIDS, they rise.
